Wish me luck today

St. Patrick's Day is sort of a big deal in NYC. Not in the sweet way it was over the weekend, with families and kids wearing shamrock headbands pouring into the center of town for the local parade. Not like the fun of hanging out with friends during the annual corned beef and cabbage dinners in the school gym throughout my childhood.

It's more like inebriated 20-year-olds trying to stuff themselves under their seat on the train so they don't have to pay the fare...during the morning commute.

Here goes nothing.

Question - How are you celebrating today?

I'm wishing you shamrock headbands and irish soda bread.

  1. This reminds me of when we lived in New Orleans and we had to plan every move during Mardi Gras season. Parades started at least two weeks ahead of time and were in every neighborhood. Good luck.

I'm not having a big St Patrick's Day celebration except wearing green to work. That is after we shovel the driveway of the eight inches of snow we had last night.

    1. Yikes! Mardi Gras in New Orleans terrifies me even more. And can I just say that you've been getting way worse weather than we've been getting this year. I would have thought that we would be the ones getting bombarded.

  2. We aren't dodging drunks OR shoveling snow (thank goodness!) today. I'm sure there will be celebrations but one of the advantages of not living in a big city is the ability to avoid that sort of thing if you aren't into it. We had our corned beef & cabbage dinner last night and (don't laugh!) I have an old cassette tape (yes, you read that right) of Irish pub songs so I played that after dinner. Top o' the mornin' to ya!

    1. Sounds like fun to me. I'd rather be celebrating at your place. :)

  3. St Patty's Day was a pretty big deal when I was growing up in NJ, but now that I'm away from the area the holiday is a shadow of it's former self. I kind of miss it!

    1. Interesting. Maybe if I'd gone big as a youngster I would miss it in the nostalgic way I miss the cozy, predictable St. Patty's Days of my childhood.

Maybe you'll have to plan a trip back next year. :)

  4. Oh man... I think I would want to get way far away from all of those craziness! It reminds me of the year I studied abroad in Spain and everyone in Pamplona left on vacation just in time for running of the bulls!

    1. Goodness! The running of the bulls terrifies me even more! These are all memories that I'd like to download to my brain without having to actually experience them. :)
